Free Motion Quilting Design #184 by Julie Plotniko
New Free Motion Quilting Design #184 "Minions"

Design inspiration is all around us!

Nature, a song, a picture in a magazine are all great sources.

This quirky modern design was inspired by word association starting with TV shows of the 1950’s and 60’s.

From there my thoughts went to the TV test pattern and antenna (shaped like a V) that we twisted and turned to get the picture to come in.

I hope you like the result.

After a very close race this new Free Motion Quilting design has been named.

The winner, chosen by popular vote (Facebook and Instagram) at 6:00 PM (Pacific) on Sunday September 20, 2020 is “Minions”!

Thank you and congratulations to Tracy Thompson of New Westminster B.C. for suggesting this very appropriate winning name !

I already have a project in mind for this one.               It’s just so much fun to stitch!

As you can see free motion quilting with variegated thread can give stunning results.
A solid colour to tone in with the background fabric would give a more subtle effect.

My Beautiful Backyard Retreat

My backyard retreat

2020 was a year of changes and challenges for us all!

All of my out of town teaching engagements were cancelled yet family who needed me kept my days full.

With all of the uncertainty my sweet husband decided to build me something extra special.

We had discussed a cold frame or possibly an enclosed garden and this beauty is what he came up with instead.

I think it belongs on the cover of a magazine!

Wood for construction was locally milled and delivered.                                                                         All other items needed were purchased by curbside pickup or mail order when not available locally.

Just a little taste of Summer to thank you for your patience while I catch this blog up to date.

Finally ...just in case you were thinking that this has nothing to do with quilting, my new greenhouse is the most relaxing place ever to sit and hand stitch!       (Tutorials coming soon.)

What do you think I should plant this year?
