Favourites
1 or 2 Days
Every week I create a new Free Motion Quilting
design to share on my Blog and social media. Though I find the designing part
easy I am not great at coming up with names. This is where you come in by
suggesting names or voting for your favourite from those suggested.
In this fun and fast paced workshop, you will create
a designer table runner as we explore how to stitch a selection of favourite Fern Variations (as voted on Social Media) from Julies Name Game.
How to divide negative space with Walking Foot Quilting for striking design detail, how to choose the appropriate needle/thread/design combinations, how to adjust your machines tension for beautiful stitching and the steps to achieve smooth hand movements will all be covered.
A fun and informative Workshop for all skill levels.

with blending thread for a more traditional look or go big and playful with all
your fancy threads.
Thread choice (colour, type and weight) to enhance design will be
discussed as students stitch a small design sampler.

Beautiful Background Quilting
Quilt Canada 2016 class.

Free Motion Quilting on a Drawn Line
Quilting a design that is drawn on to our fabric is quite different from quilting a design that is in our memory.
Come and learn the tricks to make quilting on a drawn line fun and easy.
Easy Breezy Free Form Leaves and Ferns
An introduction to free motion, free form (un-marked), “Leaves and Ferns” Go organic with this class on free motioning designs from nature. These designs look wonderful on batik or art quilts and are a good way to get you ready for stitching free form feathers.
Students will learn how to stitch several styles of leaves and ferns as well as how to create pleasing line and form.
Free Form Feathers (level 1)
Quilt Canada 2016 class.
For those who are
comfortable with free motion quilting.
Free Form Feathers
are unmarked feathers that we create as we go. We will do several basic Feather
designs, background feathers and experiment with different weights of thread.
Free Form Feathers (level 2)
Go beyond basic
free form feathers by doing circular feathers, heart shaped feathers, feather borders
and combining several threads in one design. These feathers can appear very
formal or playful and artistic. Your quilts will never be the same.
Can be combined
with FFF level 1 as a 2 day class.
Beyond The Basic Free Form Feather
For those
comfortable with the basic Free Form Feather.
We will take
“Feather Quilting“ to the next level with architectural and botanical
influences. This detailed form of feather quilting is unbelievably beautiful
and easily adapts to many different style quilts.
Design Your Own Wholecloth Quilt
1 day (design)
or
2 days including layering and some quilting
We will take
inspiration from templates, architecture, nature and other sources to design
and mark your own, “one of a kind”,
small wholecloth quilt.
Bobbin Quilting
Some very
beautiful threads are too heavy to run through the sewing machine needle. We
can wind these threads on a bobbin and quilt upside down.
Come and learn the
fine points of pairing thick and thin threads and setting the tension on your
bobbin case while we quilt “upside down”.
Separate bobbin case required.
(Reduced tension
bobbin cases are available for many machines…when not available we will adjust
a standard bobbin case.)
This type of Free
Motion Quilting is perfect for Children’s Quilts, Modern Quilts, Applique`
Quilts, Wall Hangings and even Whole Cloth Quilting.
Based on the
premise if we can “doodle” it we can “quilt” it!
Fun for all and a
great way to stretch your abilities as a Free Motion Quilter.
Quilting the Dream Big
The Dream Big digital printed flower panel from Hoffman is a hit with free motion quilters of all skill levels.
It is fun to quilt, comes in a wide variety of colors and makes our stitching look amazing.

Color Blend Quilt

A “Color Blend
Quilt” is a quilt made to look like the quilts of the early 1800’s where
attention was paid to color but many small amounts of fabric were used rather
than having large amounts of yardage. Value was often ignored or lost due to
fading or the scale of prints placed side by side.
This old fashioned
look is what draws many of us to the quilting world. Come and make your own
family heirloom
while learning
simple piecing techniques and color blend color theory.
For all skill levels.

Fabric Postcards and Trading Cards
Fabric postcards are mini works of art that can be
sent through the mail with or without an envelope, just like a traditional
postcard.
They are fun to make, fun to give and even more fun to receive!
Their small size makes them the perfect place to learn or practice new techniques.
They don't need to be washable so you can use any embellishment you like from found objects to buttons, beads and more.
Thank you for the great class today Julie, Fun With Free Motion Quilting. I actually am very pleased with the samples we made and am very surprised that I actually did all the designs you showed us. I would like to take more classes to build on this wonderful experience. What's next??
