Perfect Balanced Tension

Learn how to achieve perfect balanced tension

Lecture and Discussion - 1 or 2 Hours

Do you shy away from Free Motion Quilting because you are not sure how to achieve good tension on your sewing machine?

Do you struggle with eyelashing, skipped stitches and breaking threads?

In this class you will learn how to set up and adjust your machine for perfect balanced tension.

How to adjust the top thread tension on a variety of machine styles, when and how to adjust the bobbin tension, the importance of the correct needle and thread for the design you are stitching and troubleshooting common problems will all be discussed.

Quilt As Desired (How To)

1 or 2 hour lecture
The 2 hour lecture includes an optional trunk show, slide show or show and share for instructors quilting advice.

Many patterns and books finish with the phrase “Quilt as Desired” leaving the modern quilter unsure of how to finish their project.
This class will address the decision making process to help attendees decide which of the many forms of quilting to use, the selection of quilting design, threads, batting and needles.
A variety of ways to preview and mark designs will also be included in this seminar jam packed with tips, tricks and samples.

Batting 1000

1 or 2 hour lecture.  (Always popular)
There are so many different battings on the market that it can be confusing as to which one to choose for your project.
This class will explore the major types of batting on the market, how they are made and what types of project they are suited for.

Pass around samples are used to illustrate the properties of each batting before and after quilting.

Fabric Postcards and Trading Cards

Fabric postcards are mini works of art that can be sent through the mail with or without an envelope, just like a traditional postcard.

They are fun to make, fun to give and even more fun to receive!

This one hour presentation will explore the basic steps to making a fabric postcard or trading card.

A fabric postcard of machine stitched flowers.

Needles, Needles, Needles

A must for all quilters.

1 to 2 Hours
Have you ever experienced skipped stitches, poor tension, breaking threads or points and corners that don’t match? The majority of the time these problems are a direct result of the wrong type or size needle in your sewing machine.

This information session will address the many types of needles on the market and their uses.

Precision Piecing - Perfect Your ¼ Inch Seam

Do your points and corners seem to get away from you?

Have you ever experienced blocks that seem to grow or shrink?

Did you know that there is a difference between a measured ¼” and a quilters or (scant) ¼”?

How we measure, how we cut, the tools we use, how we sew and press, the threads and needles we use all have an effect on the accuracy of our pieces.

Easy to follow tips will be given throughout to help you achieve perfectly even patchwork of the desired size with beautiful precise points!

Inspiration to Design for Free Motion Quilting

Join me to learn how to channel your inner artist and turn everyday inspiration into your very own, one of a kind quilting motifs.

In March of 2017 while creating samples for a new series of classes I began creating a variety of new Free Motion Quilting designs using items I had on hand for inspiration.

For fun (and because I’m not good at naming designs) I decided to post the first one on my Blog and Social Media for the general public to name.

This was a wonderful success! Everyone had lots of fun and my design received the lovely name of “Hugs and Kisses”.

The response was so great that I have posted a new design each week ever since.  We are now at Design #307 and counting!
