Julies Name Game - New Free Motion Quilting Design #400

Green machine stitching on white fabric
New Free Motion Quilting Design #400 "Foxtail"

Can you believe that we’ve just named my new free motion quilting design #400?

Julies Name Game started in March of 2017 when I asked my followers on Facebook and Instagram to help me name a new design that I had created for a workshop that I would be teaching at Quilt Canada.

We had so much fun that I’ve been creating a new design each week for you to name, and me to teach, ever since with design namers and students from all over the globe.

Of course, that means that the designs I teach at my workshops are constantly changing. What fun!!!

Welcome Fall

A variety of pumpkin and squash on and around a blue wooden chair

Sunny days, crisp clear nights, a bountiful harvest, a cozy fire, the sound and smell of rain, pumpkin spice everything, pumpkin quilts, Halloween, fresh corn on the cob, learning something new, fall leaves, brilliant colors, hockey season, the sound of geese migrating, sunflowers blooming, time spent with family, teaching new classes…Happy Fall!

Two orange and one white pumpkin with a sunflower

We've been blessed with a huge harvest of squash and pumpkins this Fall, with the garden producing everything from blue and orange Cinderella pumpkins to Golden Hubbard Squash, one of my favorites, and even the tiniest, ornamental mini pumpkins.

White and orange mini pumpkins, candles and an ornamental bird

Believe it or not, we didn't even plant any squash this year. They all just grew naturally as a result of mulching the seed scrapings from pumpkins and squash we've purchased over the last two or three years. The harvest was super fun because we didn't know what types of squash we were growing until they actually matured.

A squash garden with a cedar fence

The pumpkin/squash patch was huge and healthy.
It even went as far as to grow up into the neighbor's tree!

A blue ceramic pot of gold chrysanthemum

Fall flowers are equally gorgeous.
There's color inspiration for my next quilt everywhere I look!

An Interesting But Not So Subtle Message

Photo of a black and yellow butterfly on a leaf

Recently, while out running errands with my husband I was hit (hard) in the face by a butterfly, a Western Tiger Swallowtail to be precise.

Who knew that a cute little creature like this could pack such a punch!

These particular butterflies symbolize renewal, enlightenment, and a change for the better.

Being hit in the face by a butterfly, (apparently, it’s a thing), is said to mean that you’re about to experience a positive life change.
It is also considered a message from a spirit guide or loved one who has passed on to let you know they are watching over you.

Well, they certainly got my attention!
Here’s to change and life’s little mysteries
🦋🦋🦋

Are you ready for a change?
Fall is the perfect time to learn a new quilting technique.

Julies Name Game - New Free Motion Quilting Design #385

Light green machine stitching on white fabric
New Free Motion Quilting Design #385 "Fluer de Leaf"

This week’s new, Free Motion Quilting design has been named.

The winning name was chosen by popular vote (Facebook & Instagram) with a little help from a random name picker at 6:00 PM (PDT) on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

This design is now called “Fluer de Leaf”.

Thank you and congratulations to Janet Smith of Turlock, California, USA for suggesting this wonderful and very clever, winning name!

Those participating in this game often use creative spelling to create their name suggestions.
I have been known to correct any accidental misspelling of words but I always check the dictionary first, to be sure that they are not intentional.

For this name, the spelling of Fluer is indeed, very clever.

It turns out that fluer is a verb that means to flow or to creep.
De is French for of.

That makes the hidden meaning of this name,
"Flow of Leaf".

I don't know what I would do without all the amazing, imaginative people, who help me name my designs each week!

Get in on all the fun and click on the links at the top of this page to follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Feedspot.
