Julies Name Game - New Free Motion Quilting Design #385

Light green machine stitching on white fabric
New Free Motion Quilting Design #385 "Fluer de Leaf"

This week’s new, Free Motion Quilting design has been named.

The winning name was chosen by popular vote (Facebook & Instagram) with a little help from a random name picker at 6:00 PM (PDT) on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

This design is now called “Fluer de Leaf”.

Thank you and congratulations to Janet Smith of Turlock, California, USA for suggesting this wonderful and very clever, winning name!

Those participating in this game often use creative spelling to create their name suggestions.
I have been known to correct any accidental misspelling of words but I always check the dictionary first, to be sure that they are not intentional.

For this name, the spelling of Fluer is indeed, very clever.

It turns out that fluer is a verb that means to flow or to creep.
De is French for of.

That makes the hidden meaning of this name,
"Flow of Leaf".

I don't know what I would do without all the amazing, imaginative people, who help me name my designs each week!

She says that she had a Bittersweet Vine growing on a fence row and that it was really pretty in late fall.

Hand-guided FMQ on a mid-arm machine with 12-weight cotton thread.
I love the extra visual appeal that using a thick thread adds to Free Motion Quilting, especially on country-style quilts.
Just remember to use an appropriate needle and stitch the design large enough to accommodate the thickness of the thread.

A Fun Summertime Treat - S'mores With A Difference

A wagon wheel cookie snack melted between two graham wafers
S'mores With A Difference

Long established as the best, campfire treat ever, a traditional s'more consists of a large marshmallow toasted over an open fire until it is golden brown on the outside and melting in the middle that is then sandwiched between two graham crackers along with a large square of chocolate.

The heat from the toasted marshmallow melts the chocolate for a wonderful gooey treat.

Of course, an open fire isn't always practical whenever you crave this fabulous treat.

Because of this, I often make traditional s'mores in the oven.

All you need to do for this is to layer the graham wafers, marshmallows and chocolate, place them on a cookie sheet, and then heat until the chocolate and marshmallow melt.

Now for the twist!

Wagon Wheels are individually wrapped treats that are like an inside-out s'more. They have chocolate on the outside with a cookie and marshmallow center.

This makes them a favorite snack for the local quilt store where I teach.

During a recent class it occurred to me that if  I took a Wagon Wheel, placed it between two graham wafers and heated it in the microwave we could have "Upscale S'mores" with our coffee.

They were certainly effortless and very yummy!

Now I'm thinking of going super gourmet with soft and delicious homemade ginger cookies, marshmallow creme, dark chocolate and red pepper jelly.

What is your favorite S'more?
