Wholecloth Walking Foot Quilt - Virtual Workshop with the Saskatoon Quilters' Guild

Wholecloth Walking Foot Quilt

Your Walking Foot can be used to create fabulous designs to beautifully quilt blocks, borders and negative space.

Quilting a wholecloth quilt is a great way to explore some of the possibilities of this wonderful tool.

I had the recent pleasure of teaching a full day, hands on, virtual workshop on Walking Foot Quilting for the Saskatoon Quilters' Guild.

The participants received some of their instructions ahead of time so that we were ready to go at class time.

We had a wonderful day of relaxed learning while everyone chatted and explored all the fabulous things we can do with just their Walking Foot and a standard bed machine.

Here are a few of the resulting quilts.

A pale blue walking foot quilt
Quilt by Cathy Drew

I love that Cathy used a light color on the front with a deep rich color on the back and tied them both together with the playful polka dot binding!

Cathy says that though she has been taking classes for 12 to 13 years that this is the first time she has completed a class project.

Well done Cathy!

Watermelon colored wholecloth quilt with rainbow binding
Quilt by Cheryl Bock

The cheerful watermelon color that Cheryl used is stunning and the rainbow binding makes it so much fun.
She even has an animal print on the back!

Cheryl says:
"The concept of measuring a section of the quilt, adding registration marks and then using them to create a design was new to me and will hopefully lead to more intricate and interesting designs on future quilts."

I'm sure that I can look forward to seeing even more exciting quilts from Cheryl very soon!

A walking foot quilt with a tiny tree print
The back of Ruth Anne's Walking Foot Quilt

Ruth Anne Appl decided to make a Christmas gift with her wholecloth walking foot quilt.
How smart is that!

The snowman print is adorable but Ruth Anne said it was difficult to see her stitching on it so she quilted it from the back.

Not only was this a great solution but just look at how beautifully she has lined up all those tiny Christmas trees with her stitching lines.

Great job Ruth Anne!

Thank you all for sharing your wonderful quilts with us.
