A Fun Summertime Treat - S'mores With A Difference

S'mores With A Difference

Long established as the best, campfire treat ever, a traditional s'more consists of a large marshmallow toasted over an open fire until it is golden brown on the outside and melting in the middle that is then sandwiched between two graham crackers along with a large square of chocolate.

The heat from the toasted marshmallow melts the chocolate for a wonderful gooey treat.

Of course, an open fire isn't always practical whenever you crave this fabulous treat.

Because of this, I often make traditional s'mores in the oven.

All you need to do for this is to layer the graham wafers, marshmallows and chocolate, place them on a cookie sheet, and then heat until the chocolate and marshmallow melt.

Now for the twist!

Wagon Wheels are individually wrapped treats that are like an inside-out s'more. They have chocolate on the outside with a cookie and marshmallow center.

This makes them a favorite snack for the local quilt store where I teach.

During a recent class it occurred to me that if  I took a Wagon Wheel, placed it between two graham wafers and heated it in the microwave we could have "Upscale S'mores" with our coffee.

They were certainly effortless and very yummy!

Now I'm thinking of going super gourmet with soft and delicious homemade ginger cookies, marshmallow creme, dark chocolate and red pepper jelly.

What is your favorite S'more?
