Free Pattern - Simple Comfort Lap Quilt

Simple Comfort Lap or Baby Quilt - Free Pattern
Simple Comfort Lap Quilt

The pattern for my Simple Comfort Lap Quilt is now available.
Simply click on the Free Pattern Page above for full instructions.

This fun little pattern is great for all skill levels and though written for Fat 1/4's it can easily be made from scraps.

You could eliminate the border for a smaller quilt or make it with as few as two fabrics for a totally different look.
Some of my long time students will be familiar with this pattern originally written in 2005 as the Six Fat 1/4 Baby Quilt.

I hope you enjoy making this quilt for yourself and for others.

A special request from me to you!

As you make this quilt for yourself why not make a second one to gift to one of our front line workers?

Our Doctors, Nurses, Care Workers, Pharmacists, Grocery Clerks, Gas Station Attendants and more are still on the job and working hard to help us through this very difficult time.
Many have felt the need to live separately from their loved ones to protect them from possible infection.
All are under a great deal of stress.
Let’s show them we care!

Please share your photos here and on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.

Julies Name Game - New Free Motion Quilting Design #159

This weeks new Free Motion Quilting design is my way of offering a little diversion for you in these unsettling times.

What do you think this new Free Motion Quilting Design should be named ?

Comment below (here or on Facebook and/or Instagram) to suggest a name or vote for your favourite.

The winner will be chosen by popular vote on Sunday March 29 , 2020 at 6:00 PM (Pacific).

And this designs new name is "Spring Hope".
This wonderful name was suggested by Jaynie Himsl of Regina Saskatchewan!

To stitch the design follow these steps.

Start at the bottom of the first teardrop

1) Stitch one teardrop (feather) shape.

2) Stitch a curved line inside the teardrop.
This line should be about two thirds the length of the motif and echo the shape of the outside curve.

Stitch a curved line inside the teardrop shape
Re-stitch on top of your previous line to return to the start point.
This completes the first half of the motif.

Stitch back to the base of the teardrop

3) Next stitch a curved line that echos the top edge of the teardrop shape.
Don't worry about being too exact. Just allow the design to flow.

Echo the top arc of the teardrop shape

4) Leave a little space between the lines to create a half moon shape and stitch back to the start point.

Stitch back to the start point to complete the motif

You have completed one full motif  repeat.

One complete motif

Stitch a continuing series of motifs to create the all over design.

To travel to the right start with a teardrop stitched to the left.
To travel left start with a teardrop stitched to the right.

Please share photos of your stitch out of this design in the comments below.
